Dr Matt Wright

Dr Matt Wright

Dr Wright is a consultant cardiologist responsible for the treatment of patients with all heart rhythm disturbances, from slow heart rates to rapid heart rates. He is an expert in radiofrequency ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation and complex cardiac mapping technologies.

Dr Wright also implants cardiac pacemakers and defibrillators and re-synchronisation devices for patients with slow heart rates, ventricular tachycardia and heart failure respectively. Dr Wright trained with Professor Haissaguerre's group in Bordeaux for 2 years, one of the world’s leading centres, where he had a thorough training in electrophysiology, in particular the management of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and atrial tachycardia. Dr Wright remains actively involved in arrhythmia research including novel strategies to visualize the effect of ablation to try and minimize the risk of procedures and improve success rates.

He serves on the advisory board of Philips Healthcare. Dr Wright is regularly invited to give lectures to local, national and international audiences about both his research and the practical issues surrounding the care of patients with arrhythmias. He is actively involved with the patient's association, the AFA, organizing patient days and educational events for GPs. Dr Wright cares about making the complex information regarding abnormalities of the heart rhythm simple and understandable to each patient so that the patient can actively take part in the decision making process in the tailored treatment strategy for them.
